when was ASC started?

well tats my question, when was asc started/founded. I have always wondered how long this great site has been around and cant seem to find the answer.

IIRC around 2000-2001. The first members were Lisa, HoJo, Tru, Cortex, and the like.

ya i see a cpl members who are from 2001. Lisa's profile says 2004 so 2001 is the farthest back i have seen thus far. Maybe someone will post up who knows the exact date.

I hear there was a geocities forum before going to vbulletin.

it went back further than 2001, some of us started with Xring, Lynch's, and airsoft forum, actually a few others and I came from the land of land line phone call from Poncho for a game that was to be held 1-2 month after the call.

Actually it was before that. Late 90's, and then it went through a few changes... I remember old timers resigning for new account at least three times!

I'm fairly sure the old ASC up and running somewhere, i seem to remember someone (probably Lisa) posted a link to it in a thread in the last year or two.
IIRC it has a black background and red styling and is nearly unreadable lol.

Originally was ESWAT's (Ontario team) forum, which became the main hangout for Canadian players. The biggest/main forum at the time was probably Airsoft Zone (ASZ) which was in the US. After C67 passed in '98, so ~1999-2000, the classifieds on ASZ became hard to use for Canadians -- who couldn't import anymore and could only deal with other Canadians. Coupled with the fact that one of ESWAT's members, Tru, was an early retailer in Canada... the forum became the hot spot for airsofters in Canada.

Faced with this growing popularity (and now being more of a hub for all Canadian players than just a team forum where friends hung out), the forum was reborn as Airsoft Canada -- around 2001. Everyone who was on the previous forum migrated to ASC, so the oldest join date will be 2001. But if IIRC there was an interim incarnation of ASC before the switch to the current forum software.

back then, AS is guarded by players... If you're in the know you have access, if not.... You're SOL!

It's knight of the round table! :)

Well...the forum posts used to go back to the 1970's, well before the creation of the internet or personal computers.
