Anything on M16 Style (SAM-R or SDM-R)

Well I'm just waiting now to get my age verified status that I applied for back when I was 18 so I can look through the classifieds (New to the sport of Airsoft). But anyways I was wondering what's some good M16 w/ RIS rifles to start as a platform to build a USMC style M16 (SAM-R) or a US Army (SDM-R). Size and weight is not a problem. Ive always liked the M16 or C7. Leave pics of your M16 for inspiration.

Well nevermind on that part about age verified. Whoops :D

Easiest would be to start off with a VFC SPR as a base. After that mod externals to your hearts content.

Airsoft Gear has one SPR in stock last time I was physically in their store. But it's the crane stock version so if you want to be true to the SAM-R/SDM-R you'll have to find somewhere that has a standard fixed A1/A2 buttstock. Also you're going to have to switch out the flash hider for a standard birdcage instead of the SPR style "OPS" suppressor.

Next is a fixed triangle post front sight, a bipod, and an ACOG and you're good to go.

Also a personal thing, I like the look of "VN" mags (low pro and high speed looking and look like they belong on a DMR) but it seems like all pics of the SAM-R or SDM-R I can find use standard 30 round STANAG mags.

How accurately do you plan on replicating your rifle? The Marines' SAM-R and Army SDM-R have some notable differences if you plan on doing something more authentic than "in that style"?

That would be the first thing to decide.

Unlike the Marines' M16A4, the SAM-R uses the KAC free float RAS; the SDM-R uses a Daniel Defense M4 12.0 free floating rail. While not majorly different at first glance, there are some noticeable differences (hence, how much of a stickler for accuracy are you?)

Also if you're starting with the SPR (which uses the KAC rail), you'll also need a new outer barrel (20").

There's a bunch of other details you may or may not wish to pay attention to.

Well I know G&P makes not to bad replicas of the USMC SAM-R. I find it hard to pick between which branch to go with haha. The kit Im building isnt branch specific really. But I have seen alot more pictures on the USMC SAM-R so I think I'm leaning towards the good old Marines.

Heres my SR16M5... well kinda like an m16a4... not really a DMR per se but its an m16 none the less. For DMR though, i went with an M14 which was converted to an XM21 (only shoots semi). a much better performance with accuracy and range if you ask me!

That rifle is awesome! Ugh I keep jumping between M4's and M16's. Im starting another thread about the M4's that look like the ones that were in the movie "Black Hawk Down". The ones Delta Force SFC Sanderson or Delta Force SSG Busch used in the movie.

Sanderson and Busch used a Colt M733, the short 11.5" barrel variant of the XM177E2, they're not just a short M4, they are short XMs!

Yeah.. I was gonna correct myself haha. I think on a few of them tho they used a M4 for the movie prop. I know the M4 wasn't released back then.
