A rule of thumb with night-vision is don't buy any bellow $600 or you will be better off using your own eyes.

yeah thats not happening under 300$ is crappy tire.
anything better you are running at least 500$
700 if you want weapon mountable.

yukon is by far one of the best

ShelledPants October 7th, 2011 20:21

if it isnt gen3, youre wasting your money. 700-2000 starting prices.

Rainer October 7th, 2011 20:26

I have Gen1 NVGs (mono type) and Gen3 ( bino type), Gen1 is only good if your the only one on the field with NVGs. Gen3 is for owning the night, and emptying your wallet but well worth it.:D

i have a set of gen2+ awesome unit, but cost close to 2000$. I can see along way and notice people in the bush from a good distance out without any IR illuminators and a semi clear sky out. so id say anything from gen 2/2+ and up is worth every penny, or every thousand dollars =P haha

viking9934 October 7th, 2011 20:44

get gen 1 and an infrared illuminator. will perform good enough for your need.

bean October 7th, 2011 20:46

Except make you super easy to spot by everyone else with nvg's and considering its Ontario thats a lot of people.

kennysteez October 7th, 2011 20:57

Yes i agree but he says 300$. cant find anything that is stealth and have good quality a that price. I don't think he will spend 1k(minimum) for nvg so Gen 1 is the only option....or wait to have a good job and buy real gen 3.

Hell at $300 a Vietnam era cascade starlight scope (around gen 2 performance) is out of reach.

$600 and a passive night vision device

no, but close.
Yukon gen1 with head mount is about $400, maybe a little more. Luckily, it's the only gen1 worth getting.

Is this the one you're referring to? I think it's a G1+, but not sure...

all Yukon tubes are gen1, not gen1+
And I was referring to the monocular with headmount

Buy a Surefire for your gun. If you can't see, NO ONE ELSE IS GOING TO. Well, only if you want to be an asshole.

In all seriousness, I think there's a way you can rig up your own NVGs with a camcorder eyepiece. I can't attest to its effectiveness, but it's defined cheaper.
