WEs and different gases
 
As opposed to modifying or experimenting with the valve assembly to reduce (or i guess increase) the fps, has anyone tried running a WE on HFC132a?

I've tried the common computer duster (HFC152a / C2H4F2 / Difluoroethane) in a stock PDW with poor results. It fired at approximately 260 fps (at room temperature) for 6 shots before venting all the gas in the mag.

For reference purposes it fires ~498 (at room temperature) on green gas.

I'm going to attempt to get some HFC132a sometime this week to perform some more tests, but was just wondering if anyone has already tried it and can comment on it's performance.

I assume duster would not have enough "oomph" to run the WE system. It's made for propane and CO2.

The reason why it would vent after a few shots is that it doesn't have enough pressure to blow back the bolt/nozzle assembly all the way and therefore the gas valve on the mag stays open and vents the gas.

Use it what it was intended for, use propane or CO2.

Well considering its running way too hot to begin with, using a lower pressured gas could be an easier alternative to dropping the fps. Not to mention the fact that doing so would probably reduce the wear and tear on the gun in the long run.

Still curious if anyone has tried it

You're not listening. It was designed for propane so it won't WORK on lower powered gases, or at least not like it's supposed to.

I understand the argument, saying it won't work because it's not designed to work. That does not necessarily mean that it won't work, its just not designed to do so. It may work great, it may fail miserably or it may do something in the middle. The gun could explode and kill me, though I doubt it will be that extreme.

I just wanted to check if anyone has actually tried it to get a second opinion. Either way I'm still personally going to try it and post the results, regardless of whether said results are good or bad. At least that way I can give an accurate observation instead of a general guess, and possibly save someone else the time and trouble.

I've run duster on my WE PDW (closed bolt brass tube, like all other WE GBBRs). It's horribly sluggish and vents gas more often than not since the bolt cannot cycle fully.

Styrak wasn't giving a general guess really. I mean that's how the system works, it uses the pressure of the gas to cycle the bolt. Using a gas with less "oomph" as previously said won't cycle the bolt.

Just buy yourself an NPAS and keep using propane or CO2 like the gun is supposed to be used with.

yeah it's been done with unsatisfactory results ... Incomplete cycling, mag venting.. get an N-Pas adjustable nozzle and run propane..

I have one of the RA tech NPAS nozzles and I'm unimpressed with it. I find that it is too tight inside the brass tube, and when adjusted to a gameable fps fails to cycle properly due to the drag. Plus when left stored it tends to seize into the brass tube and is bloody difficult to pull the charging handle.

really.. I've not seen this issue .. have you tried a little silly oil?

I had this situation. thought it was the wrong sized nozzle (ie a hair long) lubed it with ultra slick multi purpose grease and swapped out one of the orings and it's good to go. a tad tight mid stroke but after a day of shooting, it's fine now.

Had same problem... Fine sandpaper or file does the trick, make sure to file evenly, bit by bit testing fir frequently. Then lube.
