Airsoft safe 'Fire'

I have recently mused over this idea and feel like sharing it with you all. It is a safe form, or recreation of flames on the battle field in the form of blaze orange streamers. Initially I had this idea of a mortar that fires a Nerf rocket with multiple streamers, but now I think it could be used to recreate a flame thrower! Just need to blow the streamers of blaze orange death!
Now I can see the impractical or dangerous things kids could get into if we talked design, but this is a cool concept in my head that I just have to let out. So get creative with the idea or tell me its not your thing.

(ps I owe a user on here a big thankyou cuz his idea of streamers to mark things was cool and stuck in my imagination)

It's been done before;

have the streamers attach to a leaf blower. I'm saying attached so that you dont make a giant mess all over the fields. just have the streamers 30 feet long so they look cool :D

Thankyou, that is the thread I had in my mind.

tehmedic, that may be dangerous so I'm looking into it still. The other plan is to use Nerf rockets with 8 ft streamers that will lay out the kill zone.

If anyone has a blower and some free time tell me how it goes;)

don't understand how it would be dangerous O_o
i said leaf blower not a weed whacker. it'll just be streamers, i dunno maybe even taped on to the end of the outer casing of the air ejection part. and i dont believe the air being ejected is pressurized enough to cause an air embolism

Nope, 1000% safe, unless somebody literally fully shoved the thing up their ass or down their throat it wouldn't hurt em

Or they reached in and touched the fan blades, which are typically covered with a plastic grill with tiny holes spaced far enough back....

Come at me with that thing. Fine, I'd take the hit but don't expect the streamers to stay attached to get the next guy. :)

Wow, in that other thread someone mentioned throwing the flare to mark a sniper.
if this is Milsim, and you throw a flare at someone in real life, their clothing is likely to catch fire.

Overall I do support the idea of those cheap flares being an option but I don't think there is a tonne of usefulness to them.. Marking Ammo zones ect can be easily done with small flags or even short pylons before the game, and be much more resistant to damage.

On the note of flamethrowers however... I just personally don't believe they have any real use in airsoft, are they even used during combat anymore in real life?..

mr_nuts31 July 12th, 2010 11:03

I do remember seeing one in action, don't know if you can call it a flamethrower, but all it was is a literally a huge continuous spray of bbs at about 400fps powered by compressed air.

Ya, I don't want to use bbs, they cost and cover the ground. The field we play on is intensely fillied with brush of strange types and could easily use a 'flame' in a brush clearing squad. Or even charging structures it would be useful.

The leaf blower will probably work out but I would like to test it still, being blown at is nothing but if it picks up lots of little rocks? Ya not so cool. Heading out to the hardware store I'm sure some lonely worker will enjoy my attempting this and give some advice. I just wish it could be light and quiet... Not realistic but I can always try.

Anybody got ideas to add in this?

doc_pathfinders July 14th, 2010 09:21

it won't be quiet, leaf blowers never are..

might i suggest a modified party-blower design (you know, the irritating things that make a weird noise and unravel to a large length when you blow into them)

fuck me if i know what they are really called,

but considering the problems you'll face with policing the 30 feet of streamers (these WILL get caught and ripped to shreds in a moment) if you had 5 feet of streamer and 20 feet of coiled party-blower whatever, you'd get a nice effect..

tehmedic July 22nd, 2010 19:25

lol or use a hairdryer but take out the heating elements. not enough power in those to blow "little rocks"
