Propane adaptor causing cylinder to leak
 

Hello there! I have been playing around with my Tokyo Marui Hi Capa 4.3 for about 2 months now, perhaps once every two weeks or so, just shooting it within my apartment. Just a few days ago, I attempted to refill the standard magazines (I only have two) with the propane that I have been using the whole time (a 16 oz Coleman cylinder) along with the plastic propane adapter.

This attempt resulted in almost no gas entering the magazine (I ended up with about 1/5th of gas in the magazine one time, none another time). While the normal sound is just an loud "fwshhh", this one starts with the loud sound, and then fades down straight away in a two second refill attempt. Afterwords, I hear a light hissing coming from the propane cylinder. I removed the adapter, and the tank is stuck with a light hiss, releasing propane. I used the small stick that is on the side of the adapter to do a quick press down on the release nozzle to do a quick release of propane, and it stopped hissing.

The problem is that I have tried each day since, but this problem is constant. I have been doing the "silicone lube into the nozzle of the propane cylinder every 8 refills", so I am wondering if the silicone lube is affecting the propane cylinder. I don't have access to more propane at the time, and I wasn't sure if I should buy more simply to test. If anyone has any good pointers, tips, hints, or any info at all, it would be greatly appreciated.

what brand of adapter? use an AI one

for the cost of a new propane tank I would try that

try a different tank. the valve on the one that leaks might be defective.

if it has the gauge/probe on the side of the adapter like the OP stated, it's the AI adapter. try reading more!

your out of propane.

It could be an old tank that developed a leak. I'm currently experiencing the same problem with a tank I found in my garage that's about 10 years of age.

Thanks for the responses! Yes, it is an AI adaptor. Thankfully, it sounds like I was not doing anything stupid, so I will go and try out a new cylinder. Maybe it was due to the very large temperature changes lately here. Who knows. I'll post a reply with how it goes!

And when done filling, just remove the adaptor from the cylinder, little point in keeping it on there, especially if it causes the tank to leak.

And, in case you don't know, never let your mags sit without any gas in them, it causes serious leaking issues after a short while. I know you might know this, but too often we all see guys complaining about leaky mags only to see they dump ALL the gas after a game day and store them like that, thinking it's the way to go (kinda like unloading all BBs from mags after a game). Doesn't work that way, and will cost you if you do think that way.

I appreciate the tip. I have read that before, and I try to leave a bit of gas in the mags after I am done with them.

Now, I have a new cylinder, and this one doesn't leak! But I am still having the problem with filling. I can a little bit of gas in on an attempt, though it seems that either something on the adaptor is mis-aligned, or that for some reason, gas is having a heck of a time trying to enter into the magazine. If I blew the seals, I am assuming gas would go in fine, it would just keep leaking out. Is there a reason that it would make it difficult for it to enter?

marui GBB mags tend to appear to be full when filling. they leak gas during the fill process. this is common and nothing to worry about. depending on the mag, I'll fill until I see liquid propane spewing from the adapter/fill valve. not just the vapors but until I see drops of propane. they vaporize quickly but don't let it spray onto your hands. this can be a 5-7 second fill. some of mine can take more.

make sure the adapter is straight to the fill valve. don't assume the base plate of the mag is 90 degrees from the fill valve. (though some are)

The filling used to work fine, but now it is in this nonworking state. The strange thing is that I have two mags that I use side-by-side, and they both got the same problem at the same time when I was filling them (with some additional silicone lube at the time).

No gas seems to pass out of the can when I do the normal filling style, but when apply about twice the force, gas does come out, but not into the magazine. It just sprays out into the surrounding area.

However, my main reason for posting is to say "hahaha wtf, slono? you're using a 10-year-old tank that you found in your garage???".

Mags and adapter look fine. vent whats in the mag and try to fill it again.
