TM M1911A1. Propane? Duster?
I'm getting a TM M1911A1 and was wondering what gas is best used for it. I've heard of people using many different things and thought i would ask here about peoples experiences with different gases.
Also, what is the effect of the higher gases on the ABS frame? Thanks. |
Propane, TM guns can handle it.
|
Propane on a TM 1911 is superb power
Propane on a TM MEU has a slightly better gas consistency |
well, im kinda old school so its a m1911a1 or bust... Have you had any problems with the slide on propane? I'd hate to break such a beautiful slide.
|
propane is not recommanded for japan-made airsofts.instead best for taiwan-made all metal airsofts
|
However, it's commonly accepted that almost all newer Tokyo Marui pistols perform fairly reliably with propane. There are very few problems for the first 5000 shots, at which point, the slide will eventually fail but replacement metal ones are easy to find.
|
Hi Capa 5.1 Stock plastic Slide, 13k rounds. Still no significant damage shooting propane. I do have 3 spare plastic slides ;)
|
Propane. You should get thousands of shots before damaging the slide. And metal slides are easy to obtain (legal to import), not very expensive, and easy to install.
|
What would my other options be? I live in the states by the way. There arent too many airsoft specialty stores near me. I don't even know what kinda of duster to get or what it looks like.
|
You live in the States, you can order yourself a full metal kit for it. :D
|
Shit. Didn't notice you were in the US. Go all metal man. You have it easy...
|
I've used propane pretty much from day one in my TM M1911A1 and haven't had any problems. I figure that the slide will break sooner or later and when that happens I will switch it to metal.
|
So propane should run A-Ok on my full metal Marui 1911? I also have the high flow valve and guide spring installed. And cause I've never used normal propane, how much does it boost your gun in terms of FPS compared to green gas?
|
green gas is propane
|
with silicon oil?
|
Except green gas smells better :P Most of the time at least, I've heard of scented propane... I think green gas has some silicon in it, aswell propane will hit a little bit harder.
For duster vs. green gas http://home.cogeco.ca/~tgoode5/gasses.jpg I can't seem to find the chart with propane and green gas on it... |

If you're going to use your TM 1911 with propane or plan on installing a metal kit on it I recommend you purchase this:
Guarder Enhanced Loading Nozzle for TM 1911A1 Other than that it'll work fine, nice and solid ...but if you want to pimp it out with sex you should add to the clutter in ILLusion's private messages in his inbox mwahahha. He will pimp it and you will love it. |
The Airsoft Surgeon loading nozzle is also a good suggestion.
The stock loading nozzles tend to split when using with propane. |
SD Nozzle is what I'd use....

Yep, I've had 2 of them so far for my 1911....mainly because I transplated the first one into a Hi-Capa and ordered a replacement from you....
FYI, the BBU AFAIK is identical. |
I have no airsoft specialty stores near me, is there another way to get duster, should i decide to go with that?

Why not just use propane? |
I'd like to start on duster seeing as i cant afford to get a metal body kit right now. I know i will end up on propane, but i want to start low first.
Whats a good brand of duster to buy? link? |
Like we've already said, you don't need a metal body kit to use propane.
The price of tetrafluoroethane duster is so expensive, that the difference in price between 8 cans of propane versus tetrafluoroethane duster is roughly the price of a replacement slide. In Ontario, Canada, a can of propane is about $4. A can of tetrafluoroethane HFC134a duster is roughly $12. A replacement slide up here is about $60. It's an $8 difference between cans. To add to that point, one can of duster has LESS volume than one can of propane, so you really are saving much more money with propane. I'd say 5 cans of propane are all you need to get through, and you've already made up the cost of a replacement slide, assuming your stock one will ever break. The stock plastic slide is strong enough to easily last through 8+ bottles of propane. But if you MUST stick with duster, just go to your local areas to look for duster that specifically uses TETRAFLUOROETHANE. If it says "difluoroethane", then DO NOT GET IT. Only Tetra. Looking for a specific brand is a moot point, because it depends on what the stores in your area are willing to supply. Also, the last time I checked, MOST stores in the United States have stopped carrying tetrafluoroethane duster, because some stupid kids were huffing the stuff to get high and ended up dying. You can only find difluoroethane at most big box stores, which ISN'T what you want. Your best bet for finding tetrafluoroethane would probably be at some small mom & pop specialty shop somewhere. If you can even find it at all, you would be lucky to get it, regardless of the brand, so I wouldn't concern yourself too much with brand. |
Ok. Thanks. I would just hate for me to be "that guy" who broke his new TM M1911a1 using propane. I'm pretty un-lucky in life, so i play my cards safe like....
What propane adapter would you recommend? Any specific brand better than others? |

thanks for all your help. My pistol showed up today with the propane adapter. It's by far the best gun I've ever seen. they were out of the airsoft inovations propane adapter, so i had to get another. I will probably pick up the AI over the summer when I'm working. Thanks again. I'm tempted to write my first review on this forum.,,,
