Music?

Hey guys. I'm sure you all love your share of music, no matter what kind it is.

Do any of you listen to music while on the playing field? Or is that type of stuff restricted?

I love like heavy metal or techno music, but I'm not sure if I could handle playing with it due to not being able to hear the enviroment.

Any thoughts?

Crunchmeister October 13th, 2008 16:43

Playing with music? Might as well play blindfolded. Your sight and hearing are your 2 most important senses in the field. Take away one of those, and you're at a serious disadvantage.

Millhouse October 13th, 2008 16:44

Ummm.. Why?

I like my tunes as much as any other but I also like to hear the rattle of the new guys high cap as he tries to pull a bead on me.

Love October 13th, 2008 17:20

Haha. My thoughts exactly. Music rocks, but it would be like being deaf.

Drache October 13th, 2008 17:22

We've done it in CQB games. One game I was at had "ambient" background city noises to make it a little more realistic.

Love October 13th, 2008 17:23

Sweet. I'd personally try some like war noises. You know, people yelling, grenades going off. Etc.

Contradiction October 13th, 2008 20:29

Its not like the music has the be deafening, just background music. In fact most indoor places are fitted with speakers to do so.

The few times that I've heard music in the indoor places, its been nerd culture/parody music. such as the Rainbow Six theme music, or a nice calming Rick Roll.

Love October 14th, 2008 15:12

Nice! Rickroll, bahahaha.

Dracheous October 14th, 2008 15:15

You could always go with something like this at low level...

Aquamarine and myself included have rigged portable MP3 player speakers to our vests that we can use with our ipods. Music during fire fights is only a tap away. It doesnt just have to be music coming out of the player either, ths set up has many many uses. I personally find the set up very handy. A few memorable examples of excellent use of music during a game would have to be...

- Defending and a position being heavily assault while playing MC hammers cant touch this.

- Drawing fire with Cher's believe in a night op game.

-Making the enemy thing you are a larger force putting out alot more rounds by playing a recorded track of AEG fire over and over and over.

-Annoying the enemy with Aquas Barbie Girl.

-Recorded bird noises as communication signals.

-Recorded sexual noises for a general overall distraction to all.

I dont find playing music distracting at all, I believe its a very handy tool once you are already engaged into a firefight in a defending position. It can inspire moral and even sometimes annoy the ever living crap out of your enemy. Theres a time and a place for everything, after all you wouldnt walk to be pumpin the tunes when you are attempting to silently push bush or when your trying to shadow someone.

I totally agree. Thats a good idea. Speakers in a vest. I'd be afraid of breaking my MP3 player though. Ofcourse, music has its moments. It'd be idiotic to put on music while your sneaking around. But during defence, thats awesome.

Also, I wouldnt be annoyed by Barbie Girl. I'm sure that I'd actually start dancing and forget that I'm even playing airsoft.

Ipods are pretty durable.

If I was going to listen to anything during a game, it would have to be the ambient music from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. Especially good for Halloween or zombie games. Before a game though? Hendrix, Red Army Choir or The Chrystal Method.

Haha, question is: Does the ipod still work? ;)

The Lettonian October 14th, 2008 23:50

something went weird and I double-posted. Sorry. see below for post.

The Lettonian October 14th, 2008 23:51

I dunno about most, but I definitely rely on sound more than sight in the field...it's a 360 degree sense, and it's much easier for someone to wear and use awesome camo (doesn't help you if you're standing tall in the open) than move silently. I'm willing to bet more than one person here has figured out where someone was courtesy of fabric rustling, something jingling or hitting something else (i.e. gun to vest buckle contact, etc.) a snapped twig, or BBs bouncing around in a hicap. Or been found out, for that matter. I don't think I could play with background music. But that's just me.

That being said, T7 definitely has a point about there being a time and a place for everything....a little extra noise in the heat of a firefight can't hurt, can it? And some of those examples sounded pretty epic. MP3 player + speakers + vest seems like win to me...

Anyway, just my $0.02

Aw yeah, thats XT.

This is really an odd question. It really wouldn't make sense to listen to tunes while trying to hear where the fire is coming from, or teammates yelling. You want to be in contact with your teammates at all times.
If you feel the need to listen to music while playing, go for it. But don't be suprised when the enemy knifes you in the back cause you were too busy singing along to Sky Eats Airplane(a nice mix of both genres you mentioned).
