Army of Two Style Shield

I just curious what ppl think in the sense of it being like cheating or not. The way I see it its a gun accessory and isn't much different then normal cover other then its mobile. But just for shits and giggles I made this last week out of some spare sheet metal from work we had kicking around, its quite crude because I didn't want to put much work into it just to find no game hosts would allow me to use it.

Ghetto rifle shield:

Depending on the game rules, a shot to the shield would take you out or your gun.... lol!

Very nice though, front heavy?

NoobSchoolBus August 6th, 2008 11:29

LMAO WOW that's so badass. I was thinking of doing something along those lines.

It'd be awesome if it became game approved. But then EVERYONE and their moms would want one as well.

LeetG August 6th, 2008 11:31

That's uber sexy.

Roughneck August 6th, 2008 11:31

I could see game admins being ok with it for support gunners, or only letting one or two guys per team have one.. but definitly wouldnt want everyone with it.

Cassius August 6th, 2008 11:39

Not bad not bad :P It always pleases me to see stuff from our game that you guys create in real life.

Danke August 6th, 2008 11:46

Best rule I've heard down about those and SWAT shields is that if they are of a weight and thickness equal to a real bullet stopper then have at it.

Otherwise you're still dead.

Kingpin665 August 6th, 2008 11:48

I'm actually working on doing a Rios mask as well with a bit of my own person touch added in so I'll post that and improve the shield I'm sure, but I'm happy to see positive feed back on the concept model lol. I was so excited to use it for the first time on Monday at FR but my rifle wasn't working, so I went with duel P226's instead... now I'm pumped for September when I get back from BC to game with it and see what ppl think then too.

Mine is quite thin and weak, but it was just a test model after all, you can bend it with your bare hands but its still quite stable to the point I could block a small rock and not wreck it. Now as to what Danke said about it being full weight then being ok, I can't really agree with that as hardly any gear falls into that category with this game... and just that this is a game. As for it being front heavy as someone asked not really, shield probably weighs as much as a large battery or so plus with my gun I already have a mini in the front so it adds up but I don't notice it that much to behonest. When I put the final version together I want it to be a bit heavier but not by a butt load but was thinking of putting counter weights in the crane stock for a really nice balance.

KND August 6th, 2008 11:51

Hey ! That's badass, It would be more badass if you put on the M249.

Shirley August 6th, 2008 11:52

LOL At least other people can still shoot your body and arms.

Roughneck August 6th, 2008 11:53

I thought about making one for the SAW.. but I think it would get in the way more than anything. That and its heavy enough as it is.. the extra weight likely wouldnt be worth it unless you were playing base defense for the day.

PaCHeKo! August 6th, 2008 11:56

Mouhahahahah! Come get some!

Yeah, but if you go prone in the grass or something like that, one would become a very hard target to hit.

Ubi made this game right?

I'm sure you dont care, but if you do even better, the game was fun, but multiplayer was BRUTAL, couldent play for more than a few rounds.

Kingpin665 August 6th, 2008 12:19

Lol, yeah... it was hilarious to try that for the first time on Multiplayer haha what a joke. I did enjoy the game though (as I'm sure you've guessed) but as a single player campain meh it was the fact that it was so well done for co-op play with a buddy that made it as fun as it was.

And to PaCHeKo!... damn you for beating me to this lol, nice job though thats about how thick I was thinking of doing my final version as but I'll see how this one feels in game. Running around the house I am more then fine with so I don't see why it would be an issue on the field but... thats why you try it first right. Now if only we could do that with AEG's and GBB's :P

I just wish there was a game on Aug 8-9th I could go to now... :*(

Ubi had nothing to do with it. It was developed by EA Montreal.

tycho August 6th, 2008 14:12

First off - I think it's a neat idea and very well executed, and I don't want you to think my post is negative or critical of you, personally. :S

The problem with it not being real steel weight is that everyone will just start making them. If there's no real downside to having it then it would just unbalance the 'game' to the point where it isn't fun any more. Imagine playing an attack/defend game where every single one of the defenders had a thin metal shield the didn't hinder their movement or their aim in any way.

There's a reason that not every single soldier carries one of those around; to be effective they have to weigh about 40lbs...

In the end - AS is about trying to be realistic; using a tiny piece of sheet metal that you can bend with your hands is just not realistic.

Danke August 6th, 2008 14:20

I just jog down the trail chanting tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank,,,,,,,,,

LOL

Kingpin665 August 6th, 2008 15:44

Valid point with the complication of the weight balancing the game, I agree with that aspect for sure. As I said, this is just a first draft, and I may go ahead with putting something heavier on and counter weight it in the stock so my gun will be quite heavy at that point.

PaCHeKo! August 6th, 2008 15:51

By the way KingPin, this ain't my G36... I found it on Arnie's Airsoft ;) I dont want to have credits for something I didnt do ;)

Cassius August 6th, 2008 16:31

Shijima, I'm happy you played and enjoyed our game but yeah, as vatek said, EA Montreal made it and not Ubi. I know Multiplayer sucks.

tycho; this is based off a game; quite hard to make it real steel. Besides; even if it protects you well and even if I worked on the game that showed that gun part, I wouldn't put that on my gun. Taking that rule to the extreme would mean that if I have ceramic plates in my vest I should take more than one hit. Airsoft is a game; it's far from real life and my opinion would be to set it up on a per game basis but that's just me.

Nik12 August 6th, 2008 17:16

Ugly. I wouldn't put it on my gun unless I was planning on doing alot of prone work or shooting around corners. More or less just useless dead weight, which is going to obstruct your field of view when looking down your rifle.

I'm sure even if everyone could get away with one on their rifles, many wouldn't, just doesn't turn everyone's crank.

Although, it is good to see people out to grasp the strings of imagination and do something to their armalite that doesn't involve a sight, a vert grip, magpul anything, or rails (Nik 1, Armalite 0)

Kingpin665 August 6th, 2008 17:55

Lol, of course this doesn't interest everyone infact I would say a very small % of ppl would be interested in something like this. But to each his own indeed, but I believe the score is in favour of the armalite as they make up half of the AEGs at any given game... can't argue with those numbers. Definitely hard to make yours look unique though I love seeing so many other guns on the field though I'm not some M4 fanboy.

Kimbo August 6th, 2008 18:08

it looks cool as it's a faithful reproduction from the game, but I don't see it as being particularly useful in a game. I wouldn't care if someone wanted to use it, I'd see it as a hinderance on their gameplay anyways. Just a bigger target to get a gun hit and take their gun out of play.
