New CQC Facility
Hey everyone, I just wanted to ask you all a question about my CQC facility in Saskatchewan.
At this point I am now aware that I have one of the only multi-level CQC facilities in Canada. When I opened it I thought there would be many more like it across the country but in talking with players from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, I now know different. It has three floors and approx 7000 sqft of space on those three floors. I am now in the initial stages of opening a much much bigger CQC facility. This building that I am looking at now has four floors, and somewhere between 55,000, and 70,000 sqft. It's big. Here's my question, If I open this new big facility would anyone from eastern Canada play here if there were big events taking place here? Would you make the trip? Thank you. |
sure..if you built it in toronto :)
|
While I applaud your ambition in this endeavor, are there really enough players in your surrounding area to sustain such a large indoor facility? There are several cqc facilities in eastern/central Ontario and Western Quebec, that would probably stop most of us from driving 18 hours to play inside.
|
well your not the only place.
There is the MILL in Beauharnois Quebec for the eastern players. |

Toronto needs a dedicated airsoft field. If you are planning to buy property, you gotta do it soon though a lot of companies are buying land to build condos. |
CamoGames runs a an awesome operation. Having been there recently I have to say hes a great guy and an amazing host. It will be a pleasure to play in Melville again. I look forward to the next trip.
You can always count on the Saskatoon guys to make the trip. |
Yeah, definitely a good time. Nice arena, nice people... what more could you ask for? The multiple levels really add to the whole experience. I highly recommend anyone interested in this place to go check it out :)
|
Thank you TokyoSeven and Maverick0 for the kind words, it was a pleasure having all the players from Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Regina play here. And I also thank the rest of you for your thoughts on this as well.
ex-royal, as I've mentioned, players from Regina (1 1/2 hours) Saskatoon (4 hours) and Winnipeg ( 5+ hours) have already played here. There is also a group from Calgary (8-9 hours) playing on the 1st and 2nd of March, so it is not only the surrounding area that is playing here. Don't get me wrong, I know what you're saying, it is a very long way from eastern Canada to play here, that's why I posed the question..."would you make the trip" To address some of the other comments. First off, the playing area that TokyoSeven and Mavcerick0 are talking about is the building I have now. It is three floors with 7000 sqft of playing area. Secondly, I am not building a play area. I am thinking very hard about buying a retired Hospital that is approx 60,000 sqft of space on four floors. This is why I asked the question. "If I build it, who will come" I would like to know how far people would drive, or fly to play here if there were large events (100 - 150 players) put on here. I am also going to be using this facility for RCMP, Fire Fighting, and possible SWAT training as well. Some of those contracts are already in place with the city. testtube, can you tell me a little about the Mill or is there a website I can look at? is it three, four, five floors? Thank you all for your replys. |
Toronto has a dedicated indoor airsoft Facility that has been in operation for over 2 years..

I'm always down for a road trip. Especially if i can get away from Calgary indoor.......its driving me insane, same thing over and over.
|
testtube, I just read about the Mill on here and watched a video. It looks like a great place and the video was pretty cool too. Is there mutiple floors there, or just one, and how many sqft in there?

I wish, im too short of cash for it now. no job and all. But i will be on the next trip if i can swing it. Still have to plan for Kalowna and BC cost games.
|
Well yeah, hopefully next time then :)
|
I am in the group coming from Calgary, seems like everyone going so far is pretty gung ho. Looking forward to a new indoor place!
|
we will be there allot this summer and really camo..what has the east contributed to Canada?? don't listen to these rejects......it's absolutly amazing that your offering this.....we will see you next friday, hopefully ill have 20 people with me.

coming up on the 1st. will bring the digital camera and get some good shots for you.
|
If I'm ever through the Sask area I'd sure as hell drop in, but when that's a different question all together. I'm done my training in Manitoba for at least 6 years so I won't be driving through anytime soon. :(
I wish we had a CQB area in BC, perferably on the island. I'd be all over that. |
Maybe I have a "way out there" dream, but I just thought I'd mention it on here to see what the interest would be if I open the bigger building. If players from across Canada come together for outdoor games, I also thought it may happen if there was a very large outstanding CQC facility.
I've got my answer for now, that's good enough for me. Gene Pool Medic, I look forward to it. jtf2-phalanx, thank you. I am really looking forward to bringing players from across the country into one location to build this sport/game we all love. I also think it will bring new players to the game, and give Airsoft a more visible face so to speak. |
infernal, sounds good, can never have to many good pics.
Rukus, you're welcome anytime. I used to play competition paintball and we drove out to Langley to Panther Paintball so I know it's a long long drive. It was worth it though, nice place. What do you guys have to play in indoors? |
Sorry for the delay Camo,
the airsoft side is 4 floors Sqr footage not sure to be honest. But there is a Paintball and a go cart track in there aswell. I have recently aquired the paintball area to add in my scenario in the facility. you never know We may fly up there for a game. |
Quote:
No worries about the delay :) Yeah, I was looking at some pics of the Mill and it looks real good. With the other activities going on in there it sounds like it's a cool facility. Well you guys from eastern Canada will always be welcome here. I'll keep you posted on how things go here with this new venture. The one I have now is doing great, but the big one will be 10 times better I believe. |
Obviously some people cant take a joke....Im from Nova Scotia so..........I cant say anything bad about my roots. Ive only been out west for ten years.
we are pretty much at 20 now Camo, everyone is pumped.. 5 vehicles coming out full so far. |
For anyone who is interested, I shot this video at the Melville facility... check it out for an idea of what this place looks like:
YouTube - Melville Airsoft CQC |
The problem with games in Canada that I can see so far (i've almost played exclusively in HK) is that it's easier for people in the East and West to drive down to the states for games (assuming you can get your gun back into Can). Or for people stateside to come up into the East/West for games.
The country is just too huge for people to travel East/West for games barring large events. CamoGames Just a question. Are you having problems with getting liscences etc and are you getting any flak from city officials/residents. I've been thinking of doing something similar in Edmonton (or a loft/condo conversion) of old schools and hospitals can you pm me with your email and maybe I can get some information. |
im up to drive down there looks like a interesting road trip !
just to get a picture how big is 70Ksquare meters a popular building ? btw i know its probably big |

CG has from what it looks like full blessings of the local community and press, he's run Haunted Houses for a few years for them there, and currently has a Reball business in the building. So Airsoft was a natural progression for him, and in the eyes of the community no different, so a bonus for additional business and traffic. |

wow that looks like a kick ass place nice vid ! the 3min20pistol kill is awsome ! |
Maverick0, nice video man....good stuff, I like that.
Azathoth, I'll pm you with info Bloodsport is right, this is small town Saskatchewan. When I say small, I mean small, there is approx 4500 people in this town. I just had 21 Calgary players and 4 Sask players here for the weekend that had a good time and thought the facility was good, or great. Here's the thing though, I did not start this thread to talk about my present facility (even though that's nice as well). I started it to talk about my next project which is in the retired Hospital. If you liked the Ortona video, you will jump out of your shorts when you see in the next building. It is somewhere between 50,000 and 70,000 square feet. I want to have big games in that one starting not to long from now. I had my first meeting with City council last night about moving my business to the bigger venue and it went well I think. Stay Tuned!! |
Quote:
The new building I want to move to has four floors and has 5 stairwells on each floor, an elevator (not working at the moment but could possibly again) a mini elevator, and a drop shute from the top floor to the bottom. It's big, as I mentioned above, approx 50,000 square feet + |
Quote:
Nowhere at the moment it's all out doors. On the island anyhow. I think they have something set up in the interior of BC but nothing here on the cost. |
Quote:
Is that going to be economical? I would certainly go to a large facility like that for a game but likely only if it was a big event would/could possible include some of the grounds. |
Could you elaborate a bit on what you mean by "some of the grounds"
Plenty of shooting room on the inside, and I believe there is a means to shelter some of the outside allowing for a building breach as part of the game. I've played the smaller of the two venues twice now, including the crew from Calgary (thanks again guys for letting us tag along). The elementary school is nice enough on its own, simply due to having multi-levels which is head and shoulders better than anything else in the province that I'm aware of. The hospital, if Al can get it going, is going to be quite the venue. Hospital is essentially a large horseshoe...three wings, 4 levels each. Plenty of room for just random plastic mayhem and skirmishing for those that like CQC. And definately potential for larger scale events/theme games/etc depending on how Al wants to put it all together. One of the things that the facility DOES have going for it, is location. Lots of hunter types that already congregate around the area, so the locals are usually used to seeing strangers in the town, dressed in camoflage. ;) Smaller rural community, so things are a bit more relaxed than say downtown Vancouver or even downtown Regina. My understanding is that town council has been kept in the loop from the start, and so far, they are quite supportive as well. |
There will be a possiblity of using some outside space but it would only be approx 8000 to 10,000 square feet of outdoor space....not big, but it will add something to the game, and all together with the inside, it is one big area. Or maybe you're asking about outside space for a different reason?

im positive for a road trip! |
I think an approach to the building from the outside from any one of several angles along with the ability to fire from the building to the outside would be great vs. "You start in Room A and go from there.
Small town Sask is bit different, my wife worked around there and I think she either knows or is related to anyone in a 500 mile radius. At least it feels that way when she sees someone give the secret green handshake. |
Quote:
|
I'd road trip to Sask for a game if we generated enough interest here to do so. That wouldn't be a problem, it's only a day and a half drive.
|
OK how about a swing that has Keystone Strike, the CQC building in Sask, and something in Calgary.

Before this goes to far, I want everyone to know that I am not ready for a major game in that Hospital yet, even though the players that were just here said they would play in there right now. They kinda liked it ;-)
I have things to do with the city before I can move into the bigger building. |
camo is there any place to sleep there ?
|
One thing I recall about the hospital is the lack of electricity. Sure, its fun to play in the dark, but also dangerous as hell, especially when theres stairwells and other fun things goin on. Before any large games are planned, I would seriously considering wiring the place back up, getting a generator , and having lights in the hallways. Sunlight can only light so much of the building and for only so many hours.
Other than that, Azathoth, if you think any airsofters from Canada go to play games in the USA, and visa versa, I would say that youre quite confused. Im sure a few have tried, and even fewwer succeeded, but I guarantee you it is Not a common thing. Driving two provinces over is worth the trip for facilities like this hospital and school! |
Quote:
Inside the building you mean? no Outside the building? there is a nice lawn outfront, but I don't think the city would let tenting happen. It's a residential area, besides the hotels are cheap here :) |
Quote:
Hey Zekk, I wouldn't even think about playing in there without the lights put back in. In the daytime...no problem, but at night, no. When the guys saw it the other day, they wanted to go get there guns and come back :) They did play in the school with the lights shut off a lot of the time. |
Well speaking for my team it would be worth a trip if a major event was going to be held :)
|
Quote:
Thank you, I think you'd enjoy it. |

Mmmmmm...longer distances than the school.
And it has that "worn" look. Lol. |
tanks acid !shure looks real big the kitchen and the boiling room leaves to much place for imagination ! the top floors look less worn down buy the umidity
aniway looks like a kick ass place to play ! |
Please tell me thats an actual person down the hall way and not a ghost!
|
I had to look real close and turn up the contrast on my screen to see it but it looks vaguely multicam-ish, no?
|
Quote:
. |
Whoa, thats trippy--- have to look mad hard to see that
|
Quote:
I could let my imagination run and say it could be dead and long gone passed paitent. Hmm I think it might be two people. |
ACU, actually. Lol, and yeah, tony's big enough to be 2 people.
|
Thanks for putting those up AcidFire, it gives peope a good idea of what it's like.
I have a lot of cleaning ahead of me. All four floors will be clean and safe before anyone plays in that building. Maybe we could have a game on the top three floors soon, but we won't go in the basement till it's cleaned up. |
..............ZOMBIE
|
The place looks AWESOME. Remind me to get a tetanus / Diphtheria shot before i go crawling around in the boiler room or morgue.
|
Morgue....*shudder*
|
it might kill the look a bit, but i'd get a pressure washer in there and get things bit cleaned up.
*shivers at ghost pic* |
That's one helluva place for any zombie/stalker/apocalypse/horror/anything cool scenario.
|
Quote:
As I mentioned a few posts back, it will be cleaned up before we play in there. The top two floors are already done, the bottom two need cleaning. I think it will be insanely fun to play in. |
I am so excited I could pee.
Its gona be a blast when thats all done. |
Quote:
Hey Styrak, yeah long hallways. I roughly measured and the longest hallways are approx 175 - 180 feet long and there's four of those. There's another 8 hallways that are approx 120 feet long as well. |
Would not catch me dead in there... creepy as fuck, and with my vivid imagination .... urgh.
Nice to see i am recognizing various things in the boiler room pictures. Just heads up: yellow pipes were most likely for natural gas, blue for water (feed water for the boiler, condensate, etc), red for steam, black/brown (hospital should have them) are oil supply for the boilers for when gas supply gets cut. Look out for oil storage tanks somewhere there, too. Those look like some old ass boilers, too. Also, knock on the pipe insulation. If it is rock hard, and seeing as it is an old building, good chance they used asbestos. Unless it was removed, I would stay the fuck out of that room. Heck, boiler room is probably the only place where I would go there :D |
No one will be going into the boiler room as well as a few others...those will be off limits.
This is not what the rooms will look like when it comes time to play in there, and there will be lights. I don't think it's very creepy at all. |
Im pissed i couldn't make it out last Saturday, it looks awesome, count me in for sure.
|
Quote:
|
I would totally be up for going if you get a big event going like Keystone does.
|
Quote:
If this all comes together the way I'm 99% sure it will, there will be some very big events here, probably a couple big ones a year. |
It looks really nice. If only I had the funds to buy a similar building out here.
|
Quote:
yhea seriously there is way worst out there ! |
Build it and they will come bud like I said before.
|
I live just south of calgary, and would so be into checking it out

No...I mean Winnipegger's...those guys that had the pink guns & stuff!
|
Quote:
Oh, I see...not sure. They have a game of their own that weekend otherwise they were would have came. |
camo i cant wait to play the school at the end of April.
|
Quote:
Actually it will be the Hospital....30,000 square feet on two floors. I'm working on the other two floors to get them ready for the next game in a couple months. When I get it all finished, it will be 50,000 - 60,000 square feet or insane fun. |
Insane fun indeed. I cant hardly wait. Im looking at my finals schedual for that weekend of the 26th and its turning terribly grim. That really tweezers my nut hairs on my down stairs mix up because I was realling looking forward to gettin back out there and sling some plastic.

Thanks super_six_four If I can accomplish what I have planned, you ain't seen nothin yet!! |
for sure. and i thought the school was the coolest thing ever when we were there but the tour of the hospital topped it off.
|
First the school, then the hospital, eventually all of mellville will be an Op site.
Eventually all of southern Saskatchewan will be covered in BBs and the screams of people having so much fun that it makes me want to touch myself just thinking about it. Geez Im graphic tonight. |
Quote:
That's some funny stuff Tokyo Well I'm not to sure about all of Melville :) but after this next indoor game, I will be working on my own Irene. |
Quote:
yeah you having an Irene style game would be nuts but im just as pumped as can be for Calcity Does Melville Deux |
Quote:
Yeah you're right, one thing at a time :D |
Camo, at least a few people will be coming from Saskatoon, me included. So 2+ people! Can't wait to play in the hospital.
|
hmmm multi level and freaking huge
Bah I can't play anyways I'm underage I'd go there with me paps if he was up for gaming in Saskatchewan |
