first gun
taking a Poll on either the Dboys M4 S_SYSTEM or (ares) uramex HK G36CV what do you think?
|
Systema PTW.
Seriously D-boys are not the best quality. And ARES isn't the best if only cause it only has okay parts and if they break it can be very hard to source replacements. |
First you need to decide what's your budget
Second, what style of gun you like After this, ask again. |
Budget is about $300 to $350 and I like both styles
|
DBoys will do... in a serious pinch, I've found, but with that budget you can do a fair bit better these days. I can't say where, but if you get age verified there are a lot of options opened up to you, and we can tell you where best to go.
Can't speak for the Ares, as I've never owned or fired one, much less that specific model. I did handle one of their G36Cs recently, and externally at least it seemed fairly nice, but that's all I can attest to. |
Well why not get a King Arms or WE M4 AEG
|
For your first gun id suggest definately get a good one, that is all.
|
I don't mean to sound like a complete prick, but both those guns are Terribad, you might be lucky and have them running for a while but they are made by companies who have really low quality control.
Some people say systema or die or what not, they aren't great either, they still break down, and ESP if your new and spend 1.8k on one and have them break on you within a few months, trust me, I know this I have 2 friends who both got PTWs as their first guns. Brands like Tokyo marui aren't too common in country but they are deffinately something to consider, their guns are quite cheap, and their quality is outstanding. Google G&P and King Arms. Reputable brands, great quality for the price range, and don't need much out of box tuning |
The advice I always give to people is to first decide on what model of gun you want, i.e. G36/M4/AK
and then decide on the brand. Once you've decided the model it makes the process easier. It helps to consider the different features of each model. |
I didn't want to be the first to day it but yeah, both those brands are terrible lol
|
I agree with Curo in that you should go with a King Arms or WE M4 AEG. They're both about $250, great out of the box quality, and really easy to upgrade. Personally I would go with the WE M4 AEG, mainly because I own one and they are super easy to upgrade (fully TM compatible). I have mine done to the tits now with Lonex internals and its a monster if a gun. Owned it for a year now and put well over 10,000 rounds through it and I just now stripped a spur gear. Comes to show what you can get out of them.
|
I have both a 2010 and 2012 ares g36k and g36c and the only issue I've ever had was a torn hop up( I dived into a trench and got dirt in the hop up) ares g36s are their best model in my opinion.
The only thing I don't like is that some parts are proprietary so they will be hard to find if they break. |
- For M4 starter go King Arms ($250 - $300)
- If you want the best get a Systema or Fight Club Custom ($1900 - $2500) - For a G36 starter go CA or something similar. - For the best, try and find an old Star (not Ares), and upgrade it. |
Actually, JG G36c are awesome for the price. If you can find a gen 4, it's one of the best G36 available, and the other gens are great if you plan on upgrading, but not the best out of the box compared to CA.
JG G36c old gen is nearly 100% compatible TM, except for the hop-up unit, mag well and nozzle (if you swap the three parts for TM parts, it's now 100% compatible). But as everyone said, you can compare G36c's to M4s, because the M4 platform has everything from wal-mart AEGs to batshit insane custom PTW. |
Thanks everyone for your input Ill definetly do a little more research I only thought those 2 guns would be a good starter all because the reviews on you tube that I saw
|
Keep in mind that a PTW stands for Professional Training Weapon.
Are you a professional and are you training? If not then it may not be for you. |

Although it's a superior platform, a PTW runs off the same basic concepts as any other AEG. It runs the same rounds, and has the same dynamics when pertaining to FPS, safety, etc. One major downside is the cost of course. Not only is the gun more expensive, but magazines and other accessories are as well, including any upgrades or repairs; completely worth it if you have the coin though.

Obviously they are going to go on and on about how good at is and overlook the crappyness so you will buy it. To comment on the PTW is a professional training weapon comment. I guess then we should call AEG's APW's. Amature Play Weapon lmao |

Celius PTW's is called CTW celius training weapon. that statement is COMPLETELY MOOT! its a gimmick companies use to sound like its "more than just airsoft" |
by that token... the ptw does comes with a more than just airsoft price. :P
|
But do I have a PTW because I'm a professional airsofter? Or am I a professional airsofter because I have a PTW? =O
And I wouldn't go as far to say most youtube reviews are sponsored, but I would say most youtube reviews are made by people who have NO IDEA what they're talking about. For example, you have no clout to boast quality internals if you're not a well recognized gunsmith. And you can't comment on the quality of a metal body unless you actually know something about metallurgy. Worst of all, a single review doesn't mean shit. ONE person has a miracle gun built by classic army that lasts 5 years stock, or that G&P M16 that I worked on that lasted over 200,000 rounds and 3 years of heavy abuse without breaking anything internally. It's just not an accurate representation of brand or model. Most CA's are garbage, and most G&Ps have gear or piston failure within the first 2 months. Most infuriating of all, is when they do an "accuracy test" at 50 feet, with mystery ammo, from a standing position. |
what pains me is when i see a reveiw about how solid a metal body is and how its just like that real thing.
I had a inokatsu, the body was made of 6061T6, it thats close.... Brands like KA, G&P, WE, VFC and what not all use shitty potmetal Quote:

King Arms Colt licenced M4A1 Full metal AEG
Got it for $279 here in London. But most places are selling for 300-350 Full metal gun Great Brand Internals are Great for stock Lots of options for upgrading if you want Also doesnt need to be upgraded if you dont plan on upgrading |
G&P cast bodies are high quality compared to some others (G&G, CA) still suffer all the disadvantages of being cast, they ARE solid, but all their receiver top rails I've seen are slightly under-sized =/
I would say high quality pot metal, probably the closest you'll get in airsoft without using machined billet lol |
well ive decided that im going with the M4 platform and i've look into these 2 rifles what are some of your thought's on these.
WE M4 RIS AEG - KATANA SERIES CAA - M4 Carbine made by King Arms |
Quote:
The katana is Systema based and could be awesome. But mags will be trouble some vs the KA which you could make it like my G&P and it'd be a beast. |
Soooo your saying go KA? Because I think that's what I'm leaning towards
|
Well the Systema based internals are arguably a better design than Tokyo Marui style V2 Mechbox. But that being Said a well designed, tuned and built V2 Mechbox is no slacker. Its really a toss up. Though mags for the king arms will be cheaper and easier to find. But something tells me with all the PTW clones hitting the market mags for the katana might not be a challenge.

The Katana borrows the removable cylinder concept from the PTW but it IS NOT a Systema based PTW clone. The Katana has zero parts that are compatible with the Systema based PTW design. The Katana uses common Marui based: long type motor, gear-set, hop-up, barrel and mags. The cylinders are a proprietary WE design and the gearbox lower is basically a V2 with the top cut off. edit: WE "KATANA" M4 AEG - YouTube IMO the success of the Katana will rest on the cylinders. If they have a good air seal and aren't prone to failures then there is a lot of potential there. If the Katana takes off my guess is that you'll see aftermarket cylinders popping up so if the WE ones are shit it won't matter too much. But this being your first gun I would recommend the King Arms because it's tried and true. |
it's a PTW clone like a PTW is an AEG clone.
Same technology, different application of it I admit I like the IDEA of the WE katana, I just don't like that they didn't do anything else with it |
