Need Help Picking mp5 Starter (Budget <400$)

Not sure if that title was quite specific enough
here's the deal, I want to get into air soft
I want a good starter gun
I want an MP5 (and not just cause everyone else has one :P)
I cant pick one

-I was looking at the aftermath broxa, but after reading on here for a while I'm starting to think that might not be a great choice
-The other ones Ive been looking at have been g&g models
this one in particular https://www.buyairsoft.ca/gandg-mp5-blowback.html
but this one if I wanna spend more https://www.buyairsoft.ca/gandg-mp5-sd6.html

Main thing is I'm looking for an mp5 something maneuverable with good mid range capabilities that can be well rounded and used for numerous things
and as the title says Id like to spend less than 400$ (and thats after shipping and taxes)
(I'm not a cheap-ass I collect swords, but I don't wanna spend to much cause I'm gonna have to pay for college next year)

forget buyaairsoft.ca Get Age Verified (info is at the top of the forum in the stickies & in the FAQ). Browse the classifieds here. Get a TM or CA MP5.

grantmac March 24th, 2010 11:58

If you were AV'd then you could easily find a better quality gun then those G&Gs in the classifieds here on ASC.
The only budget MP5 I've had contact with was a metal-bodied CA Sportline and it was a great little AEG.

Tm mp5 sd5 with ras and upgraded for cqb only cost me 425$ shipped in the classifieds

Hairu March 24th, 2010 12:28

Is there any canadian vendors that would have CA or TM

Forever_kaos March 24th, 2010 12:29

PM'd you :)

venture March 24th, 2010 12:33

you need to be age verified for us to answer that.

but, definitely get a tm. better yet a tm mp5k/pdw (look at my signature).

Hairu March 26th, 2010 13:31

I dont really like the look of PDWs
I prefer something Like this http://www.adrenalineproshop.com/productitem_275.php

fleuryfighter March 26th, 2010 14:10

Mach 1 airsoft has an ICS Mp5 for $385 i think

VooDooPeteK March 26th, 2010 14:29

Like others have already said your best bet is to get AV then look in the for sale section here. I have seen a few good MP5 deals in there that would be under your budget and already have some upgrades on the guns.

Even if you decide to buy new from online shop its still good to get your AV done so you can look at parts or anything else the fine people on here are selling :)

fi3re March 26th, 2010 14:49

being in a similar position as you (assuming your 18+) I have to say, really, listen to what ppl say get age verified you WILL save and get a gun that's a lot better for same price

i say similar position as in I just got into the sport and already got hooked up with a killer deal
full black evilness too

Con Murder March 26th, 2010 18:25

Get AV'd and look for one with a suppressor on it and put a 300mm tbb in it. That set up has a few guys here doing quite well on a large field (one at 370fps and another at 400fps) against longer barrel guns.

Hairu March 26th, 2010 20:10

whats a tbb ?

Rooster March 26th, 2010 20:17

I'm a newb but I believe it's tight bore barrel. Improves accuracy (cluster of shots) on full auto guns.

tight bore barrel

Hairu March 26th, 2010 20:23

ahh I see
man I gotta get age verified
curse living in a hick town

Rock 'N' Roll Outlaw March 26th, 2010 20:25

You have a verifier close to you. PM Forever_Kaos and you should be good to go. Or hop on the greyhound to the GTA where there are verifiers aplenty.

Hairu March 26th, 2010 20:33

Yeah I already talked to forever_kaos I'll prolly be meeting him asap
greyhound not so much-- I dont have money to blow on that

BoGrain March 26th, 2010 20:43

go for safesoft ICS MX5 A5(you still need to be age-verified); i think mach1airsoft sell them

Hairu March 26th, 2010 21:30

I do like that gun
but it goes over my price range
once you factor in tax and shipping
also Id rather wait for the new version

Drow March 26th, 2010 22:01

Go with a Tokyo Marui and don't do any upgrades on it until you've played a few games. If you start playing with the internals you can screw the gun up and you won't even get to play.

Nicholas9 March 26th, 2010 22:59

not trying to jack the thread in any way but would you recommened buying the ICS MX5 A5 full metal or wait to get AV'ed and buy off the classifieds?

Hairu March 26th, 2010 23:09

no problem with the jacking I was tempted to ask that myself
cause that gun is sexy, but the new version looks amazing :o

I suggest you get AV'ed first and then decide. Getting access to the classifieds will open a world full of goodies (as it seems :)). You'll get a better idea of whats available on the ''market''. Atleast, that's what I'll be doing.

Sha Do March 27th, 2010 17:59

LOL....my Gawd. How many people does it take to translate "tbb" for this poor guy?? Anyways, the correct term for a tight bore barrel is "TN" - for tight/narrow, which it has been for the last 3 decades. If we start assigning our own terms and definitions to various items that already have them, everyone would need a translator to interpret the different acronyms from player to player.
So if you don't know the correct acronyms, please type out the all the words rather than creating a whole world of confusion, especially for the new players.

LOL...thank you.

SHA DO

I hope $400 isn't your entire budget. You'll need at least another $150 for goggles and boots (yes, you NEED a good pair of boots). As well as batteries, a charger, BDU's, etc. The batteries and chargers that come with low end guns are generally of low quality and should be replaced. I've seen those chargers fry batteries.

The generally accepted number for getting into airsoft is about $1,000. You can comfortably do it on about $600 though, if you pick up a used gun and gear and forgo things like a good tac vest (which is nice, but not necessary at first).

Honestly, a low budget and "good starter gun" don't go together. Cheap guns are generally NOT good starter guns. They don't perform that great, and they tend to break more often. If that's Ok with you, fine... just realise a broxa is a lot more likely to snap something in your first season of playing than a higher end brand.

Oh, and +1 to Sha do.

Hairu March 27th, 2010 21:49

no 400 is not my whole starting budget just my gun budget lol
Id like to be able to buy a gun without having to buy batteries right
off tho
and I might add that technically Im not buying yet because I dont have money
at the moment, Im just basing the budget off my average makings at my summer job
namely Im going to not buy swords this year cause last year I bought 6 swords and a couple knifes, not to mention a DSLR camera which put me out a bit lol

kalnaren March 27th, 2010 22:14

You can probaby get away with the battery for a while.

However, you can spend $40 on a charger now, or $50 on a new battery and $40 on a new charger when the cheap one that comes with the gun cooks the battery.

You get what you pay for in this hobby.

Con Murder March 28th, 2010 21:45

My bad, I only knew tight bore barrel for the items title. I will use Tight/Narrow for future posts:)

zakizdaman April 4th, 2010 15:52

well, i think 007 airsoft would be a good choice for getting one, they have some good stuff, and they can probably ship it to you. They even have starter packs for like 365$, gun, battery, charger, glasses, magazine, and some BB's.

Percuvius April 4th, 2010 16:08

Get a full metal ICS MP5 for $380 or wait for the new split gearbox ICS full metal MX5 at the end of the month.
