CA M24 paint project
After growing some balls, I have taken the leap forward and decided to paint my CA M24. After tons of research and questions, I felt confident to proceed.
I lightly sanded, then de-greased the rifle and accessories - then taped everything off. That took a solid two days of prep work. I hung the rifle stock, receiver/barrel and bipod in the air using coat hangers and hooks to get a good 360 spray angle and drying area. The flip-up covers and sling swivels I anchored using nails and a scrap piece of wood so they wouldn't fly away when being sprayed. For the bolt handle and end-cap, I used four bricks to hold the stem in place and vertical. The scope I held vertical by hand and sprayed it by turning it, then let it dry. The bottom of the mags were simply sprayed and let to dry. I have applied two solid coats (two cans of Krylon tan camo paint each) letting each coat dry for two hours in-between. My next step is to let everything dry over night, then assemble the rifle with all the accessories mounted and in place. I plan to give it a couple light spot-sprays of Krylon brown camo paint using a laundry bag to create a snake-skin effect. http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p...wg/paint01.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p...wg/paint02.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p...wg/paint03.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p...wg/paint04.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p...wg/paint05.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p...wg/paint06.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p...wg/paint07.jpg |
So I'm guessing it's not done yet? Can't wait to see it assembled!

Whatever you do, don't use a clear coat. The wear and tear you'll get from gaming over a year or two will make the gun look so pro, you'll be surprised.
|
Yes, everything is drying as we speak. It has been a GREAT day for painting - nice and hot and sunny with a slight breeze.
And I do not plan on using a clear coat, I'm a fan of natural wear so I'm really looking forward to how it will look in a couple years... |
I usually put one coat of clearcoat, that I lightly wet sand. Gun will look the same, will wear the same, just more comfortable, I find.

Ohh dude that looks sick!! Went from not having the balls to paint it, to having painted it and making it look amazing!

Good paintjob!
Take pics of it in the field to give us an idea of how good it work! |
Thanks for the compliments guys! I am VERY happy with the end-result.
I am having my right knee operated on June 4th (ice hockey injury), so I will be out of action for a couple months, but when I'm back I can't wait to take the rifle out! |
Feel free to mail me your rifle. I will game it for you and take pictures. I will make a lot of kills in your name!
Wink! (o: |
Nice paint job man! Can I send back the MP5 so you can paint that too?? :D
|
The rifle turned out so well, I am totally into painting more if a client pays for the paint costs and donates a little for the effort ;)
