I have a question for the AK snobs ;) ; what is the largest battery you can fit into an AK74U (CYMA or other brand). I am interested in getting one as I love the small compact look, but if the battery storage is crap I'll just grab a full stock AK like a compact 105. I'm looking to use LiPos in it; I correctly have two 7.4v 1200mAH stick lipos and two other 11.1v 1800mAH blocks (which wouldn't fit for sure). A little help?

105s are side folders and have the same battery capacity as a aks-74u. Though 104(looks the same as a 105 but is 7.62 is way sexier! Definitly a good choice if you ever plan to do a russian loadout.

Lots of good lipo solutions for stick batteries these days.

As for brand i highly suggest lct(you wont regret it) a lct ak105/104 can be had for under 350 in canada and has none of the weak sauce potmetal cyma has

Zack The Ripper August 8th, 2013 17:36

^Thanks, I actually just realized the battery storage cap on the 105 myself, Derp.

Decisions decisions.

Do you know any details to the performance of the AK74U? I have some stick lipos that I believe would would fit and do the job. I'm just looking at the inner barrel length and kinda going "huh..".

you could mount this to a side 20mm rail
bigger lipos etc would be no more problem
i ordered one to test
waiting for it to arrive
doubt, i'll be using it for it's intended purpose
most likely to store snacks for in battle or extra ammo
LOL

You COULD. But for the price of the rail and the PEQ box, you could get several small LiPo batteries, and just switchem 'em out.

Though the LiPos my team runs in our AK 74/74Us last pretty much a whole 8 hours of playing.

this only costed me $18
ordered a scope mount and 2 scopes with it so i feel i got a good deal
my AK47 and AKS47 both have 20mm rails so i guess i'm getting away cheap

I have an AKS74U. I can fit a 9.6v stick battery in there and with room to spare as well. The battery compartment stretches from the upper receiver literally all the way until the front sight.

Zack The Ripper August 8th, 2013 23:42

Good to know guys.

Desmodus: what brand is yours and how you you like it? What's the range, accuracy, trigger response, etc like? (Loaded question, I know)

Desmodus August 9th, 2013 00:15

I have a CYMA AKS74U. Its been upgraded with a few parts (madbull bearing spring guide, madbull 6.03 tightbore inner barrel, guarder clear hop up), shoots around 320-330fps and has some pretty good range and accuracy when coupled with heavier weight bb's. Its pot-metal instead of steel which is probably a turn-off for most people... but its been durable so far surviving Nightfall 2 and a bunch of other games without issue. Trigger response is okay and it really seems to shine with a 9.6v.

If you look around the forums, most people will attest that its a beastly little gun. Nice compact size makes it easy to run through brush and the gearbox is a tank. You could probably pick up a Dboys (so you have a steel body) and do a little switcharoo's here and there in the gearbox and get some pretty good performance. All in all I think its a great little gun and it has pretty much replaced my M4 as my go-to CQB gun. You can see a picture of it on page 28 from this thread.

Nice, pretty much the answers I was looking for. I saw in your photo that you have the PBS suppressor. That can be used as an outer barrel extension correct? I ask as I would likely lengthen the inner if possible. Is the FPS rating you have currently what it was shooting stock?
