Does anyone know a good place in Canada that sells those Alta Knee Pads? skdtac charges $40 shipping for the $20 kneepads.

I love my Arc'teryx knee pads. Not only because I'm a Arc'teryx whore, but because they are very confy. They are well designed and flex with your leg where needed. And they have this cool feature that prevent them from getting tangled in vegetation when walking in high grass or dense wooded erea.

For me, having a hard surface in front of the foam is essencial when you kneel on a sharp rock!

what, 9000?!

I use Hatch XTAK kneepads.

Amazon.com: Hatch XTAK Knee Pads, One Size, Black: Sports & Outdoors

You can get them in OD, Tan, Black, and some camouflage colours. Overall, they're really affordable (under $25), and because they have that X style shape instead of a O, they tend to bend more with my knees, and hug them so they don't slide down. Granted, in a 8 hour game, I probably readjust them 2-3 times because my pants ride at different lengths, but it's not an issue if you're stopping to figure out a strategy/plan.

I got the Alta knee pads this morning, and I just so happen to be home from work, sick.
I've been wearing them all morning - both to see how comfortable they are, and how much protection they give as I'm on my knees, puking into the toilet.
...There really isn't a better day that these could have come. :D

Anyway, they're definitely more comfy than the kneepads I would wear when I was 10 on my rollerblades. It's got the hard protection on the outside, and nice padding on the inside. The "alta lock buckles" really do make it convenient to take them off and put them back on, once you've found a good tightness.

At $20-$30, you can't go wrong.

I have some Emerson Replica Crye Precision Combat Pants AC (version 1, Multicam) that came with some replica pads. I also have some real Crye Precision Combat Pants AC (version 2, Khaki), some G3 Combat Pants™ (Multicam), and the AirFlex™ Combat Knee Pads.

The quality of the real stuff is definitely a lot nicer than the replicas, the AirFlex pads are AWESOME when it comes to comfort. The replica pads have a harder and less flexible outer shell, so you tend to "roll" a bit when you take a knee before it settles in a stable position.

When it comes to the pants, the real stuff is a lot more durable, better stitching, tougher materials, etc... Everything you would expect when comparing the two. You definitely pay for the Crye name and the fact that they're made in the USA, I wouldn't gauge them to be worth what Crye puts the MSRP at... I personally prefer the cut and build of the generation 2 Combat Pants AC in comparison to the generation 1's or even the G3's. The knee pad pockets on the G3's seem to be stitched closer to the inside of your leg, so the pads slope inwards. The Combat Pants AC have the pads stitched more towards the center, edging on the outside of the leg so the pads slope outwards of anything. I find the outward slope keeps the pads in the most ideal position on my knees. Will likely sell my G3 pants to buy another pair of the Combat Pant AC's.

If all you use the pants for is airsoft, you can probably get a pair of replica gen 2 Combat Pants AC and pair them with some real Crye pads and you'll get the best experience possible for airsoft knee protection.

Just grabbed a pair of those Arc'teryx - hopefully they work out for gents with thinner legs like myself, other knee pads in the past seem to have issues staying up.

manchovie November 11th, 2013 10:23

alta for me too (going on 8 years as well). if i don't expect to be as banged up or if i want to look cool i use my arcteryx.

Hoarday November 17th, 2013 09:36

I've been using a pair of Alta's for ~5 years. I like them, but sometimes I feel like the elastic and non-elastic strap should have been switched to make them less likely to droop, this might just be me though because I have chicken legs :P

buy your pants a little long, cut off the excess , sew on some "belt loops" to put your knee pad straps thru- It's that simple1
